What is the Memorial Day Community Party?

The Memorial Day Community Party is an annual event that serves to honor select areas- while, commemorating the families and businesses of these special communities.  Our goal is to provide empowerment to its residents by exposing them to a positive environment and diverse culture that will open their minds to thinking and believing that they too are an impactful and influential community. The celebration will be a fun-filled day of family fun activities, entertainment, great food and community resource providers. We will shine a spotlight on the great assets of that area- while, providing a positive opportunity for its members to enjoy the outdoors and connect with valuable resources from within the area.

When does the Memorial Day Community Party take place?

What are the hours of the Memorial Day Community Party?

Where does the Memorial Day Community Party take place?

The celebration takes place at Houston This Is It Soul Food, 2712 Blodgett, Houston, TX 77004. One of the oldest African-American restaurants in Houston, Texas. This Is It Soul Food dishes out delicious dishes from the steam table to a diverse mix of customers.

 

 

Is there parking on site?

Yes. There are parking areas conveniently located around the location- and, additional parking in a nearby commercial parking lot. We encourage you to come early to get a good spot.

Can I bring food or beverages to the event?
Yes. Outside food or beverages are allowed. However, once at the celebration, you can also purchase food and drinks from a variety of available vendors. If you have a specific dietary question- please, feel free to Contact Us.

Can I bring lawn chairs to the event?
Yes. You can bring standard lawn chairs. Emancipation Park is well maintained with plenty of trees for shading, benches, tables and a BBQ area. Unclaimed chairs left afterwards will be discarded or left behind- make sure to remove your items. We appreciate your cooperation.

What kinds of activities will be held at the celebration?

The celebration will have a live DJ- plus a number of musical performances throughout the day. For families, there will also be a Kids area with fun and age-friendly activities to ensure children have fun and enjoy the day as well.

Do the vendors require cash to purchase items and/or food?
It is at the vendors discretion to accept whichever forms of payment that they wish- we encourage you to bring cash if you’re concerned of a vendor NOT accepting debit or credit cards.

What happens if there is bad weather?

The celebration organizers will take appropriate measures in case of inclement weather. The safety of the attendees, entertainment, vendors, sponsors, volunteers, event organizers and everyone else involved in the celebration will be taken into consideration. If the event is completely rained out, the event organizers may- at their discretion, reschedule the celebration for another day. Is the location wheelchair-accessible?
Yes. There are areas of the park that are paved.

How do I get to the festival by public transit?

If you’re not traveling by car, you can use Houston METROUber, or Lyft.

What is the celebration code of conduct?

To create a safe and entertaining environment during the celebration, we urge everyone to:

  • Respect others, property, and your reputation.
  • Have a buddy system. Stay safe while helping others do the same.
  • Contact the event organizers, security or Houston Police Department on site if you see any illegal act or if something goes wrong. They are there to help.
  • Remember that you must be 21 to consume alcohol legally in the state of Texas and at this event.
  • Have a designated driver if you have consumed alcohol. Do not drink and drive. If you need assistance, ask us and we’ll be happy to contact Uber or Lyft on your behalf. But remember, you must bear the cost of your ride.
  • Use proper conduct at the park. Offensive behavior, such as verbal abuse, intimidation, or harassment during this event will not be tolerated.
